American/Swedish photographer Jesper Haynes lived, loved, and incessantly photographed the infamous stretch of 3 New York City blocks known as St. Marks Place from 1986-2006. Previously immortalized by the likes of Led Zepplin, Lou Reed, and Andy Warhol, St. Marks Place during Haynes' heyday was a melting pot of punk rock, art, drugs and epic street riots.
In all black and white images, Haynes documented 20 years of living on St. Marks. With his apartment as a backdrop, this photo diary chronicles Haynes' friends, lovers, and frequent transient couch surfers in a storm of youth, sex, and seemingly non-stop partying. Equal parts gritty and painfully beautiful, St. Marks 1986-2006 is a must-have for devotees of black and white photography. Signed limited edition available exclusively at houseofexposure.com.
