NYC filmmaker and photographer Cheryl Dunn has spent her career submerging herself into exclusive and very protective worlds, from the graffiti scene that led to her appearance in Aaron Rose’s 2008 documentary Beautiful Losers to the ruthless, high stakes world of boxing. In this iconic image, Dunn captures cruiserweight champion Al “Ice” Cole in 1990, just as he began his rise to fame.

I like to submerge myself in a world and visually and socially explore it. I am also drawn to the city streets, and the people who strive to leave their mark there, from graffiti writers, artists, boxers, bikers, protestors.
